SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - If at first you don't succeed, try again. Savannah is taking that old saying to heart.
Last year Mayor Edna Jackson, State Representative Ron Stephens and State Senator Lester Jackson all teamed up in an effort to get state funding for a firefighting vessel for the Savannah River.
The $1.3 million purchase was not funded in the budget last year, but they are sending letters to Georgia Governor Nathan Deal again this year.
With the Port busier than ever and harbor deepening on the horizon beginning next year, they say the vessel is needed now more than ever.
