Mayor Jackson to speak at SSU commencement

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah State University announced that Mayor Edna Jackson, who graduated from SSU with the class of 1968, will be the commencement speaker at the 181st ceremony on December 8th.

The ceremony will be held in Tiger Arena starting at 10a.m. and is open to the public.

Roughly 215 undergraduate and graduate students will receive their diplomas.

Mayor Jackson earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from Savannah State in 1968 and completed her master's degree in education from both SSU and Armstrong Atlantic State University.

She retired from Savannah State in 2001 after spending 30 years in counseling, admissions and financial aid departments for the school.
