BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting incident that left one man injured at a north end apartment complex Monday.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of shots being fired in the area of The Oaks just before 1 p.m. Deputies made contact with a 26-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg when they arrived.

According to investigators, an altercation between the victim and two unidentified black males subjects occurred in the parking lot near building 1 at The Oaks. Shots were fired at some point during the altercation. After the victim realized he had been shot, he fled on foot towards his own apartment. The two remaining subjects left the area in a teal green Honda.

A deputy in Bluffton spotted the vehicle traveling on Hwy 170 towards Savannah. A traffic stop was conducted on Hwy 17 near the Talmadge bridge by assisting officers with the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department. The vehicle and its two occupants were positively identified in connection with the shooting. They are currently being interview by investigators.

Investigators are still trying to piece together the shooting and the events that lead up to it. Authorities say they are receiving conflicting stories from the involved parties.

The victim was transported to Hilton Head Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury.
