District 9 candidate filing deadline Dec. 10

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

A special election will be held on March 19 to fill the remainder of the term for the Beaufort County Council District 9 seat, which is a partisan office.

According to the county's election office, candidates seeking party nomination must file with their respective political party; candidates must submit at the same time to the same filing officer, a Statement of Intention of Candidacy, a copy of the Statement of Economic Interest Form and the filing fee of $207.

Filing for candidacy opens at noon Nov. 30 and closes at noon Dec. 10. Party primaries will be held on Jan. 29, 2013.

Candidates want to be on the ballot via petition must submit a petition and a copy of the Statement of Economic Interest Form to the Beaufort County Board of Elections and Registration by noon Jan. 18, 2013.

The petition must have the valid signatures of no less than 5 percent of the number of voters registered in the County Council District 9.

The special election to fill the remainder of the Beaufort County Council District 9 unexpired term will be held on March 19.
