ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A 10-year-old is recovering from shotgun wounds after an attempted robbery at her southwest Atlanta home.
It happened at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday at a duplex apartment on Amal Drive.
"I was sitting right near my window and I heard a really loud sound," said Fatima Mosley, the victim's neighbor. "I was thinking there's no way that could be a gunshot, that sounded way too close. I didn't hear any screaming or anything so I thought maybe I heard a bump or something."
According to Atlanta police Capt. Adam Lee III, the girl's father had just come home.
"Suddenly, an unidentified masked male jumped from behind some nearby shrubbery with a shotgun and advised him to give it up or something like that," said Lee.
The father ran into his apartment and slammed the door.
"That's when the person shot one shot from the shotgun through the doorway and door frame of the door," Lee said. "Those pellets then struck a 10-year-old female who was laying on the couch on the living room. She was hit on her lower left leg and foot with several what appears to be birdshot-type pellets from the shotgun."
Paramedics rushed the girl to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston for treatment.
"She plays with my son sometimes. She is a really sweet little girl. I couldn't even sleep last night. I kept seeing her face in my head all night because I was worried," said Mosley.
Mosley said she will rest better once police catch the gunman.
"What if you would have shot this little girl and she lost her life? What did you gain, $200 maybe? It's just it's not worth it," Mosley said.
On Thursday, investigators said that they believed the girl's father was the intended victim of the shooting, and that four men in a gray Toyota Camry were involved,
