POOLER, GA (WTOC) - Li Chen, 31, is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and first degree cruelty to children after he reportedly assaulted his 8-year-old stepdaughter with a knife Tuesday night.
"These are very serious charges and in any investigation while we're still investigating we don't really discuss or publicly announce much about the investigation," said Pooler Police Lieutenant Karen Zantow.
The incident happened at the family's Raymond Rd. home. The Pooler Police Department isn't saying much about what happened because the case in still under investigation, but they are saying the young girl has injuries to her head. According to the police report, those injuries include broken bones and could possibly cause permanent physical disability.
Despite Mandarin Chinese being the family's first language, Pooler Police were able to get statements from the girl's relatives and immediately arrest Chen on the scene.
Lt. Zantow said, "It took a little while for us to get a translator down there, but by the time that we did, they had calmed down enough so that we could proceed with the investigation. Very cooperative people."
There is no update on the girl's condition.
