
Donation tree at City Hall. (Source: City of Savannah)Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson is asking for gift donations for patients at Georgia Regional Hospital as part of the annual Mayors' Christmas Motorcade.
The Georgia Municipal Association began the motorcade in 1958 at the request of then-Gov. Ernest Vandiver to provide holiday gifts for the patients of Georgia's mental health hospitals, according to the city of Savannah. For many patients, these gifts are the only one they receive during the holiday season.
Patients range in age from 6 to 90. Gifts should be new and unwrapped and can be dropped off under the tree on the first floor of City Hall at 2 E. Bay St. before Dec. 4. City Hall is open from 8:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
The Mayors Motorcade will take place at 10 a.m. Dec. 5. It will depart from the National Guard Armory on Eisenhower Drive.
