SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

"They are extremely dangerous and they will kill you," said Chief Willie Lovett, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department.

Lovett admits that gangs in Savannah are becoming a big problem.

"One is Tatumville and the other is Hellhole. That one is from the Madison area, the 54th St. area," said Lovett.

Those are the two gangs Lovett believes are responsible for the September shooting on River St. and the shooting at the Coastal Empire fair in November.

"We haven't been able to fully determine if it was a continuation of the same thing, but we know some of the same people were involved," said Lovett.

Police say the six men facing charges for the Coastal Empire Fair shooting are members of the two rival gangs.

When it comes to prosecuting admitted gang members, the safe street laws help out.

"We get a lot of cooperation from gun violence with them. They are a great asset to us in terms of prosecuting violent committed offenses with guns," said Lovett.

Lovett says there is still a lot more that must be done.
