Jaclyn Vergara will be one of the thousands of runners raising money for cancer research during the Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run on Saturday.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Cancer Research Center at St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital.
To raise money, Vergara challenged her group of runners, Moms Run This Town, to raise $500 before the race. If they did, she would shave her head.
Now the laugh is on Vergara because her group raised $500 in two days. She will shave her head after the race.
"I'm just crazy I guess," laughs Vergara. "It's overwhelming the amount of support I've gotten for my cause."
Like many runners, cancer hits close to home.
"I have a few relatives who have passed away from cancer so it really affects me. It can happen to anyone," says Vergara.
Vergara says it's not about hair, but raising awareness for a disease that has touched so many lives.
