Effingham County deputies arrest man after high speed chase

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Effingham County Sheriff's Deputies, along with the Georgia State Patrol, have arrested a convicted felon after a high speed chase late Friday night.

Ronnie Cope, 32, of Guyton, sped away from a road safety check on Georgia Highway 17 at Bluejay Road after handing officers his identification.

Cope pulled over after police witnessed him throwing a large bag of marijuana out the window of his car.

Cope was arrested and charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, driving under the influence and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Cope was previously on parole for criminal attempt to traffic cocaine and is currently being held in the Effingham County Jail.
