GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

A Garden City firefighter is collecting used firefighter gear to help those departments in Long Island, N.Y., that are struggling to recover from Superstorm Sandy.

Amy Headrick plans to drive a rental truck to New York from Savannah and meet with fire departments along the way to collect used fire equipment to give to those New York departments that were left without firefighting equipment after the devastating storm in October.

Headrick is asking for donations to help cover the cost of the rental truck, fuel, lodging, food and airfare to return home.

Donations are tax deductible through the Terry Farrell Fund. To make a donation or for more details call Headrick at 334.492.0842 or 912.966.7780 or email her at amysav96@aol.com or go to Terryfund.org.
