JASPER CO., SC (WTOC) -

Officials say four people had to be taken to the hospital Saturday night after a two car wreck near the Back River Bridge.

According to witnesses, one car tried to pass another which ended up forcing it into the marsh.

Two soldiers, Josh Banks and Derrick Graves, were at a birthday party nearby and heard the crash and rushed to help.

"He did a cartwheel into the swamp. I dropped my jacket as fast as I could and ran as fast as I could to get down there. He got thrown out of the vehicle," Josh Banks said.

Banks' friend also helped rescue the man.

"None of us even thought about our own safety. We didn't even check the road as we ran across, we just booked it," said Derrick Graves.

According to emergency crews, none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.
