GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

A Garden City Fire Department firefighter will be traveling this Christmas holiday to New York to help fire stations affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Amy Headrick will be traveling with her daughter on a mission to assist her brothers and sisters in need.

"It is our time now to step up and lend a helping hand, so that those departments are able to continue protecting their communities," said Headrick.

She will be driving a large box truck from Savannah to the south shore of Long Island, New York. Headrick is hoping to meet with other stations along the route to collect used fire equipment.

Headrick is also looking for local community help with raising funds for the cost of fuel, lodging and food for her and her daughter.

All donations are tax deductible and being accepted through the Terry Farrell Fund. To make a donation or for further details, contact: Amy Headrick with the Garden City Fire Dept at 334-492-0842. For more information on the Terry Farrell Fund, visit www.terryfund.org.
