VIDALIA, GA (WTOC) -
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations has confirmed a shooting that occurred on Edwina Drive in Vidalia Monday night involving a federal agent.
GBI agents were executing a federal arrest warrant on Mario McNeal for
conspiracy to manufacture and distribute cocaine with the help of two Vidalia Police Officers when McNeal tried to flee and ran over one of the agent's legs. An agent then shot McNeal.
It's not clear if the agent who was hurt is the same agent that wounded McNeal at this time.
Middle Judicial Circuit Attorney, Hayward Altman, says the agents involved were from the Tri-Circuit Drug Task Force out of Claxton.
Authorities say McNeal is no stranger
to the law. Just two months ago he was released from prison after serving time
for marijuana possession and obstruction, and he'd previously served time for armed robbery.
McNeal is now listed in critical condition at a Macon hospital. The injured agent was treated and released. The Eastman Office of the GBI is handling the investigation.
