Bluffton man arrested on drug charges after brief chase

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

Deverol Cannick, 28, of Bluffton, was arrested on multiple drug charges following a brief pursuit Monday afternoon.

On Monday, members of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Drug Investigation Section tried to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven on Bluffton Pkwy near Goethe Rd. The driver, later identified as Cannick, failed to stop and continued onto Goethe Rd. He then bailed out of the car and left the area on foot.

The vehicle came to rest in a ditch. There was no damage to the vehicle or any other property. South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the minor accident.

Cannick was then apprehended and arrested following a short foot chase. Police searched Cannick and found varying qualities of numerous illegal drugs including marijuana, heroin, crack cocaine, Roxicodone, methamphetamines, Xanax, psilocybin mushrooms, ecstasy, a handgun and US currency.

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II Drugs
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule IV Drugs
  • Unlawful Carrying of Handgun
  • Possession of Firearm during the Commission of a Violent Crime
  • Improper Lane Change
  • Driving Under Suspension
  • Fleeing to Evade Arrest/Detention
  • Failure to Stop for Blue Lights

Seized:

  • Approximately 10 g of heroin
  • Approximately 2 g of crack cocaine
  • 18 tablets of Roxicodone
  • 2.7 g of methamphetamine
  • 14 tablets of Xanax
  • Approximately 32 g of marijuana
  • Approximately 13 g of psilocybin mushrooms
  • 223 tablets of ecstacy
  • $1,550.00 US currency
  • 1- 9mm Beretta handgun
