PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) -

Traffic is back to normal after a 4-vehicle wreck Tuesday morning in the Lowcountry.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the foot of the McTeer Bridge in Port Royal near the intersection of Ribaut Road and Lady's Island Drive, trying up traffic for about an hour and a half.

Police say it all started when they observed a white SUV driven by Ellis Rashaud Washington, 30, swerving in and out of his lane on Savannah Highway. When they tried to pull him over he refused to stop, punched the gas and lost control of his vehicle while trying to turn onto Lady's Island Dr., striking three other vehicles.

Washington was arrested and charged with failure to stop for blue lights and siren, driving under the influence, driving under suspension and simple possession of marijuana.

One person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The three vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
