On Tuesday, the city of Savannah started replacing trees on the Abercorn St. median that were destroyed during other construction projects. About 100 crape myrtles were planted between White Bluff and Montgomery Cross Rd. They say before they pick the type of tree, there is a lot that goes into the planning.
"On the Abercorn median were dealing with a lot of construction. It is a very sterile and very hot environment with all the pavement. There are also a lot of fumes from traffic. It is not a place we can get to water frequently," said Jerry Flemming, director of park and tree department.
Flemming says in the coming years, as the Truman project concludes, they will likely replace the trees in that area.
