Rabid cat found in Pooler area

The Chatham County Health Department found a cat with rabies Tuesday in the Towne Lake area of Godley Station in Pooler and they believe it bit a man in the area.

Health officials said at least five others were exposed to rabies because of the same gray and white tabby.

Rabies symptoms in humans start like the flu, with weakness, fever, and headaches, and they could last for day.

Then you may experience a prickling or itching sensation followed by bouts with anxiety or confusion.

You may even hallucinate or have trouble sleeping. Once you start seeing signs of the disease, it almost always ends in death unless treated. If you see the signs of rabies or think you've been infected, call the health department immediately.
