Bartlett Middle School will soon be converted into a STEM academy that focuses on sciences, technology, engineering and math.
The Savannah-Chatham County board of education approved the new school in a 7-0-0 vote during its regular meeting Wednesday night.
Administration will begin to launch this new dedicated county-wide school option for grades 6-8 with plans to open at the start of the 2013-2014 school year.
The STEM academy will provide gifted students a more challenging and rigurous curriculum to prepare them for careers in the sciences, medical field, engineering and technology.
All Bartlett Middle students will remain in place through the rest of the 2012-2013 school year.
