The Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education is considering reconfiguring school assignments at the start of the new school year.
The board is considering moving students at Hubert Middle School to Savannah High, and students at Spencer Elementary to Hubert Middle.
The district says the reconfiguration is necessary in order to complete renovation projects that did not get completed in ESPLOST, a fund that collected a one percent sales tax to go towards school improvement projects.
However, some concerned parents say middle and high school students do not belong under the same roof, and disagree with the proposed changes.
"Why don't they have Savannah High and Islands High together for one high school? Middle and high school students don't belong together, because they are on two different levels," says Alicia Blakely, parent.
The board will further reconsider the proposal next year. A series of public hearings will be scheduled before the board makes a final decision.
