Mother and daughter's remains back in Coastal Empire

A Savannah Tech student will finally be laid to rest after she was reported missing along with her three year old daughter three years ago.

Ronkeya Holmes' remains and her daughter's remains were returned to their family.

Holmes went missing from Savannah in 2009 along with her daughter Masarah. Their bodies were found in a shallow grave in an orange grove near Winter Haven, Florida three days before Christmas the following year.

Police say the suspect, Lester Ross, is the little girl's father. Holmes' sister says she won't be able to move on until he goes to trial for murder.

"We don't have closure. We want justice. We need to see him behind bars for what he did," the sister said.

Ross is being held without bond for witness tampering.

It has taken almost two years to identify the bodies because investigators weren't able to find dental records.
