Dozens of police officers from area jurisdictions teamed up Friday to stop cars on US Hwy 80 in Pooler. It is all part of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety's stepped up patrols for the holidays. They are looking to make sure people are buckled up and following the law.
"Last year, we had 1,236 fatalities in the state of Georgia and we are trying to get below that number this year and keep the road safe," said Powell Harrelson, Governor's Office of Highway Safety.
The Governor's Office has more checkpoints in the area set up between now and the new year.
