SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It's been a long road to recovery for Marquis Mason, 19, one of the eight victims of the Coastal Empire Fair shooting Nov. 3.
What was suppose to be a night of fun with his friends almost ended his life. A bullet pierced Marquis' lungs, liver, pancreas and two other organs.
"I saw fire from the barrel of a gun and felt something hit me in my back area, then I fell to the ground," Marquis said.
Despite his near-death experience, Marquis is moving forward and hopes to turn this experience as an opportunity to reach Savannah's youth that violence isn't the answer.
"It's too much violence going on right now, too many gangs."
Marquis says he hopes to be a positive role model for other teens, and plans to share his story with students in local schools.
