Passer-by discovers hit and run victim

A Good Samaritan discovered a victim of a hit and run in Effingham County Sunday evening.

Effingham County sheriff's deputies say a Good Samaritan driving by discovered the victim on the side of Hodgeville Road near Forest Haven Drive in Guyton.

Deputies tell WTOC that the driver noticed the flashing lights on the bicycle on the side of the road. She stopped her car to investigate and found the victim about 20 feet away in a wooded area. Deputies say the victim is an adult male and he was unconscious.

The good samaritan immediately called 911.

There are no reported witnesses, and there are no leads on the vehicle involved.

"The bicycle, it's just pretty much demolished and this driver just fled the scene. We don't know of anybody that saw anything, we don't even have a description of the hit and run vehicle but we're hoping that somebody out there knows something. Or, you know, may have seen something around 7 o'clock and can give us a call." said David Ehsanipoor, Effingham County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's deputies say the man was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah where he is listed in serious condition.
