The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting incident that took place outside of a Burton home Sunday afternoon.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the Sonya Faye Ln. residence just before 4 p.m. in reference to reports of shots fired. Deputies met with several witnesses when they arrived. The witnesses reported seeing two black male subjects fighting in the yard and then hearing multiple gunshots.
The home's resident, Clarence Daniel, 27, told authorities that he was outside when he saw a black male approaching his home through a nearby field. Daniel reported that the subject looked familiar, but that he did not know him.
Daniel told police that the subject, later identified as Glen Majors Jr., 22, called out to him and came into his yard. According to Daniel, Once Majors was on his property, he charged at him and they began fighting. Major took out a handgun and the struggle continued as Daniel attempted to disarm Majors.
During the altercation, the weapon was discharged, at which time Majors left the area on foot. Deputies were notified a short time later that Majors went to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital for treatment of several gunshot wounds. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident and no charges have been filed against either party at this time.
