EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

An Arizona man is currently being held in the Effingham County Jail after he was arrested Sunday night for attempting to meet an underage girl for sex.

Steven Schlesselman, 45, of Maricopa County, Arizona, solicited sex from what he thought was a 14-year-old girl but what actually turned out to be a member of the Effingham County Sheriff's Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Schlesselman was in contact with the undercover agent for several weeks. During their conversations, Schlesselman expressed his intentions of traveling to Georgia to have sex with the child.

On Sunday, Schlesselman flew from Phoenix, Arizona to Atlanta, where he landed at approximately 5 p.m. He then rented a vehicle from the airport and drove to Effingham County. Schlesselman was arrested while parked in his rental car at a gas station on Ga.17 and Midland Rd., the planned meeting place.

Authorities believe that the only reason Schlesselman traveled to Georgia was to meet the child.

"The man bought a plane ticket and flew to Georgia just to have sex with a 14 year old. That alone is great evidence to us," said David Ehsanipoor, Effingham Co. Sheriff's Office.

He has been charged with criminal attempt to commit child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes. Throughout the investigation, Schlesselman expressed his desire to have sex with young children.
