Police display crashed car in Beaufort

Over the past few months, there have been a number of tragic fatal accidents on the roadways. Just this year, nearly 775 people have died in crashes in South Carolina.

To help save lives and prevent more accidents, Beaufort police have placed a crashed car on display at the marina parking lot in Beaufort, showing the physical impact and damage that a traffic accident can cause.

To help drive the message home, there are a number of safety messages along side the car. Chief Matthew Clancy says while there are things you can't control on the roadways, there are a number of things you can do.

"You can control your speed. You can control whether you are distracted or paying attention. You can obviously control whether you are intoxicated. If people would control the things they can, we could greatly decrease the number of traffic accidents and fatalities, and that's what we're trying to get across," said Clancy.

With help from a special grant, the Beaufort Police Department is able to move this wrecked vehicle and the trailer to different locations throughout the area to help save lives.
