On Tuesday, James Carter, 51, was sentenced to life without parole plus 35 years for the Sept. 25, 2011 murder of Chandler Johnson, 15.
Carter knew the teen through Chandler's mother.
Johnson lived with his grandparents, but was visiting his mother for a weekend. Johnson disappeared while she was at work. With no evidence of struggle or foul play, police initially believed the teen had run away from home.
Days later, a neighbor recovered video from a security camera that showed Carter's car arriving at Johnson's mother's home and leaving moments later with Johnson inside.
Hazlehurst police said Carter then confessed to killing Chandler the afternoon he disappeared and showed police where he had buried him in woods near a rural church cemetery in Jeff Davis County.
