Violence focus of community forum

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Chief Willie Lovett appeared on WTOC's Mid-Morning Live on Tuesday just hours after a community meeting to discuss the recent violence in the community.

During the meeting, Marquis Mason discussed the culture of silence, people unwilling or afraid to say what they saw. Lovett weighed in on the importance of people coming forward with details on crime.

"A lot of people look at it as snitching and say, 'I'm not going to tell.' Well that's fine and dandy until it happens to somebody in your family, and then the whole world comes to end. But it didn't bother you the fact that it was somebody else's family, and we've got to stop that," he said.

Police are still looking for two suspects in the Coast Empire Fair Shooting.

Investigators said they believe Lajuan Sloman started shooting into a crowd and Terrance Thacker lied to police.

They're still looking for both. Four others are already behind bars.
