Friends want justice after teen dies

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Friends and family grieved the loss of Rashamel Howard, 19, Tuesday.

The teenager just turned 19 on Monday, and friends say he was taken off life support at Memorial on Tuesday.

"They said things weren't looking good for him," Howard's friend Keshia Smith said.

Smith says her friend stopped responding and went down hill quickly.

"It was so upsetting. I've never seen anyone like that," Smith said.

Police say Howard died after he was shot on 53rd Street near Barnard on Friday.

Detectives aren't giving away many details, but they say he was in the carport of a house with other men who were handling a gun when it went off.

So far, no one has been charged.

"I'm not going to say the gun was mishandled because it was grown men and they know how to use a gun," Smith said.

Friends say the shooting was not gang related, but they are convinced it was not an accident.

If you would like to help with funeral expenses, donations are being accepted at Michael Brown Funeral Home.
