SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

There's no doubt Santa Claus is already gathering the toys for Christmas. But someone else is also just as busy - Coppa Claus.

Every year, retired Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Lt. and now Pastor Todd Rhodes stops at hospitals in the Savannah and Brunswick areas.

He wears the blue uniform of Coppa Claus that was made by his wife Barbara Rhodes. For 19 years, he has been distributing toys and gift cards along with Christmas cheer to children and families who are in need through the holidays.

"In fact, we go to the hospitals and try to assist those families and brighten up their day along with the children who can't be home for Christmas or the holidays. But we also assist our military families because they are in need too - we try to put a blanket over the community - low income housing - everyone. To show that police officers do more than write tickets and put people in jail - we serve this way, too," Rhodes said.

To help out, drop off any new gift to the First African Baptist Church in Savannah.

Coppa Claus will be visiting hospitals to give out toys to children on Dec. 22.
