RIDGELAND, SC (WTOC) -

Police stopped a murder suspect from Florida for following too closely in Ridgeland Wednesday.

Nelson Vargas, 26, of Maitland, Fla. was driving a Chevrolet Traverse on I-95 when officers saw him following too close around 9 a.m. Vargas exited the interstate at exit 21 and police stopped the vehicle at a McDonald's parking lot.

A check of the information provided by Vargas revealed that his license was suspended and he was a wanted fugitive out of Florida. Vargas was then taken into custody without incident.

Authorities in Florida confirmed that Vargas is wanted for first degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Vargas was transported to the Jasper County Detention Center and has been charged with driving under suspension. He is also being held on a fugitive from justice warrant. His extradition to Florida is pending.
