Soldier surprises daughters during school assembly

LADY'S ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

On Thursday, South Carolina National Guardsman Sgt. James Linton anxiously hid in a school classroom at Lady's Island Elementary School, waiting to surprise his daughters during a school assembly.

"I'm ready to see my girls," said Linton. "I'm ready to see my daughters."

Before long, it was show time. His daughter Brittany, 9, was called up to the stage in front of her whole school.

Brittany was asked about her father and with a lot of emotion, she explained he was deployed to Kuwait and wouldn't be home until after Christmas.

But Christmas came early. Linton came out from behind the curtain on the stage and surprised Brittany and her sister Tiffany, 12.

"It was really exciting and I'm really glad he came back early before Christmas," said Brittany.

"This is the best gift I ever got," said Tiffany.

The reunion is something they've all been dreaming of since Linton deployed to Kuwait nine months ago.

"I don't know how to explain it, I'm just so happy," said Tiffany.

"I'm glad to see and hold my girls," said Linton. "When you're away from your family and you haven't seen them in a long time, it's pretty exciting."

Now he's getting to experience all the things he's been missing so much.

"Just missing their smiles and the way they act up at each other," said Linton.

This Christmas, they will have a lot to celebrate.
