Still haven't received your holiday package? There's a real Grinch and he's stealing presents right off the front porch. Savannah-Chatham Metro police are investigating several theft cases in the downtown area.

Wayne Gierke returned home from vacation expecting to find a delivery, a new cappuccino maker, but he was too late.

"It didn't arrive and after a couple days, I checked UPS and they said they delivered it on the 27th," said Gierke.

Someone else was looking for the package too. A home surveillance camera caught a thief stealing the cappuccino maker off Gierke's downtown Savannah front porch. Even after seeing the camera, the burglar did not have a change of heart.

"I looked back on my surveillance," said Gierke. "I saw the UPS guy delivering it and a day and a half later, I saw a guy come up the steps kind of pretending to be a delivery guy, fake knocking on the door and picking up the parcel. He actually looked right up at the camera and looked suspicious, walked down with package on hand."

Police are now looking for the thief. He has been seen riding a bicycle while carrying packages. Police say he sometimes wears a green jacket that appears to belong to a city employee and may be connected to several other mail thefts.

"He looked prepared because he was carrying two bags with him to look like he was delivering, but he was actually helping himself," said Gierke. "In my case, I didn't lose anything important, but for some people, they probably lost gifts they were looking forward too. I hope they catch the guy."

After capturing the crook on tape, Gierke contacted the police and UPS. He was told to file a claim with the vender that sent him the goods. The company sent him a new machine free of charge.
