Wreaths for Warriors Walk honors fallen heroes

FORT STEWART, GA (WTOC) - Nearly 500 trees line the Warriors Walk at Ft. Stewart as families remember the lives of their fallen heroes.

Ft. Stewart held its annual Wreaths for Warriors Walk honoring soldiers who died serving our country. A wreath and granite marker are placed at a tree for each and every soldier along the walkway in their memory.

Nancy Neff lost her son Christoper in 2007 when he was killed in Baghdad. He was just 19-years-old.

"It's wonderful to keep their memory alive, but it reminds you they're not here anymore."

For many families, the walk is a way for them to heal and find comfort.

The Lamie family lost their son Gene during his second deployment in Iraq.

"We're missing Gean, these soldier's families are missing their loved ones. None of these soldies were drafted, they signed up for this. They died for you," said Linda Lamie, Gene's mother.

A ceremony was held before families collected their wreaths to place at their soldier's tree.
