Storm brings down trees, knocks out traffic signals

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A tree blocked part of a southbound lane on Highway 17 just outside of Guyton heading toward Pineora, according to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office. Effingham County sheriff's deputies responded.

In Savannah, a woman told WTOC that a tree almost hit her daughter in front of their apartment at 32nd and Habersham streets.

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police directed traffic on Abercorn Street/US 204 in the King George area after winds knocked down several traffic lights.

Police recommend that drivers take alternate routes around the Abercorn Street/US 204 area if possible and take precautions for officers in the roadways.  Repairs took several hours.

In Bluffton, a giant tree crashed down on a family's house. They were actually inside their May River Rd. home when it happened but they were not hurt.

Georgia Power is reporting that 130 customers are without power in coastal Georgia. 

Palmetto Electric officials says power is back on for everyone in the Lowcountry.
