City of Savannah receives grant for fitness initiatives

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

On Monday, Subway presented to a grant for $1,000 to Mayor Edna Jackson and the city of Savannah to continue employee fitness initiatives. Subway also delivered turkey and ham subs for the 100 city workers taking part in fitness programs. Jackson says healthier employees reduces health risks and saves the city money in the long run.

"Four years ago I was 50 pounds heavier than I am now. I did water aerobics and things I am not doing now but I need to. This is what we have to do as a city, lead by example," said Jackson.

Chatham Steel also received a $1,000 check from Subway. Jackson and officials from Chatham Steel hope other employees see the fruits of their co-workers' labors and also join the fitness programs.
