The United States Marshals Service for the Southern District of Georgia, in collaboration with the Liberty County Sheriff's Department, the Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Hinesville Probation Office, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations COPS grant funded Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, conducted a compliance check of registered sex offenders in Liberty County during the week of Dec. 10. More than 20 local, state and federal law enforcement officers took part in the operation.
The focus of Operation CHILDSAFE, which has a two pronged effort of compliance and enforcement, was to verify every offender, their residences, their employment and their compliance with registration requirements.
Authorities successfully located and verified 126 sex offenders during the operation. Of the verified offenders, three were also on state parole, and 39 were on state probation.
During the course of Operation CHILDSAFE, two subjects were arrested for probation violations. One of the subjects was also charged with a separate offense of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Authorities seized two firearms.
