GUYTON, GA (WTOC) -

Mitchell Johnson, 47, remains in critical condition after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on Hodgeville Rd. in Guyton on Dec. 9.

A driver told authorities he may be responsible for the hit and run. According to the accident report released by Georgia State Patrol, that driver is Daniel Edwards, 27, of Port Wentworth.

Edwards tells WTOC he was driving home from a friend's house when he struck what he thought was a deer. Edwards says he got out of his pickup truck, but didn't see a deer or a person.

He later learned he hit a person after watching local media reports. Edwards say the road was dark and there weren't any streetlights.

Police say Johnson was riding his bike on the side of Hodgeville Rd. when a car struck him from behind. Another driver noticed the mangled bike's flashing lights and Johnson in a wooded area about 20 feet away.

Authorities haven't officially charged Edwards. Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
