LADY'S ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -
A person is hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after being
rescued from the water below the McTeer Bridge.
Emergency responders got the call just before 2 p.m.
Tuesday.
Firefighters that got there first saw the person from the
bridge and used a rope to lower a life vest to the person. The life vest kept the person from drifting
with the tide as other firefighters worked with the harbor master at the Port
Royal Landings Marina to get a boat out to the person, according to the Lady's
Island St. Helena Fire District.
The patient was brought ashore to a waiting ambulance and
was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Lady's Island St. Helena Fire District, Port Royal Fire
Dept., Beaufort County EMS, Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and the Port
Royal Police Dept. responded to the rescue call.
The case remains under investigation by the Port Royal police.
