Major canned food donation to be announced

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The city plans to announce the donation of thousands of cans of food by city workers to America's Second Harvest. The announcement is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday.  

City leaders launched the Great Savannah Canned Food Drive this week after hearing that food supplies at America's Second Harvest's cupboards were almost bare. Each of the city's Eight Bureaus engaged in a friendly competition to see which could get the most cans for the food bank.

Trucks from all eight City Bureaus will be loaded with canned food donations, according to the city. The trucks then head to America's Second Harvest.

Mayor Edna B. Jackson, City Council members, Second Harvest representatives and city employees will be attending the news conference.
