Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Chief Willie Lovett wants to keep criminals locked up.
The chief went before Chatham County commissioners Friday to ask what can be done to make sure criminals do their full time behind bars.
Lovett says criminals are being locked up only to be let out early on parole, which is putting the community at risk.
"If you do the crime, you do the time. Stop letting people out before their time. We have to do something because right now we're just spinning our wheels," says Lovett.
He says too many criminals in Savannah are getting out of jail early only to become repeat offenders. The chief says other levels of government have to do something to keep criminals where they belong.
