Police say the suspects crashed a stolen car crashed into a utility pole and took off running.
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Savannah-Chatham
Metropolitan Police are trying to find two burglars who ran after crashing the
stolen car they were driving in.
Police
got a burglary report when a resident came home to find a car backed into his
driveway and several televisions and baby supplies outside of the ransacked
house.
Police
said the burglary suspects were driving recklessly to avoid Southside Precinct
officers who were responding to a burglary in progress call at about 10:30 a.m.
in the 13000 block of Canterbury Road.
The
officers spotted the silver Chevrolet Monte Carlo the suspects were driving and
tried to pull them offer, but backed away when the driver sped up.
Eagle
1, the SCMPD helicopter, went out to follow the Monte Carlo that continued to
speed away from any police car that got close.
Before
Eagle 1 could get in place, Central Precinct officers found the car abandoned
in the Habersham Woods apartment complex, according to an SCMPD news release.
The car had hit a utility pole at Whitebluff Road and Eisenhower Drive.
Patrol
and canine officers went after them, but the suspects were not located. Most
of the stolen items from the house were recovered.
