The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police recruits currently in patrol school are collecting donations for needy children, and received an unexpected boost from the FBI on Friday, December 21st.
Department of Justice District Security Manager of the U.S. Attorney's Office Roger McLaghlin surprised SCMPD Training Director Gary Taylor with a $1,000 check from the Coastal Georgia chapter of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI.
All the proceeds go towards children spending their holidays at Safe Shelter Savannah.
Trainees delivered 13 gift cards totaling more than $1,400 to the center for the children to have gifts for Christmas.
McLaughlin said the organization annually funds a charitable effort during the holidays and decided the Safe Shelter effort met their goals perfectly.
