Last minute shopping sweeps through Coastal Empire

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Many people around the Coastal Empire tried to find some last minute gifts at malls and outlets, and retailers thought that Saturday's sales could top Black Friday.

Saturday was called 'Super Saturday', and it's expected to be the busiest shopping day of the year.

Many shoppers were still hunting for last minute bargains, and the National Retail Federation says nearly 73% of American consumers still have shopping to do.

"My wife is still in there, I've already purchased some stuff for her that I'm going to hide in the trunk and then we're going to do some more shopping," said Michael McGurvey of Hilton Head Island.

"Money was tight this year, so that's why it took me a little bit longer," said Jacqueline Young of Savannah.

"Oh no, we've still got a way to go," said Brian Stafford, also of Savannah.

"The kids are down for Christmas, so we're getting their shopping done today."

Some stores like Macy's will remain open 24 hours through Christmas Eve night.
