SPALDING COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A tearful cousin of Skylar Dials, 9, spoke first to CBS Atlanta's Sonia Moghe outside of the family's home.

Brandy Grizzard said Skylar had been staying at her mother's Griffin home. Skylar was reported missing on Friday afternoon. Grizzard said she had gone to play at a friend's house just next door.

"She went over there every day. Every day," Grizzard said. "She'd come and check in. (We) went over there, asked if she was over there. They said they ain't seen her all day."

Spalding County police joined forces with other law enforcement agencies to search for the girl. Her body was found Saturday about 2 a.m. about 300 yards away from her home and in the opposite direction from the friend's home she was supposed to be visiting.

"Three days before Christmas. She didn't even get to open up her presents," Grizzard said.

Police found her body in a large brush pile and later arrested Shane Clifton Collett, 40, who lived at the home that Skylar was headed to on Friday morning. Collett has been charged with kidnapping, murder and concealing a death. A mugshot released Saturday showed scratches on his face, but it was not known if those scratches were related to Skylar's death.

"It's really hard. I just don't understand why somebody would do this to her," Grizzard said. "I don't. She didn't deserve it."

Grizzard said she believes Collett had recently moved into the friend's home as a guest. She said she didn't know anything about him, but wants justice for her cousin.

"He disgusts me," Grizzard said. "And he deserves to be dead. We deserve to see him killed on live TV. That's how I feel."

Collett is being held in Spalding County Jail without bond.
