Severe weather expected in Georgia

ATLANTA (AP) - Forecasters say Georgia is likely to be hit by the same weather system that caused tornadoes in Alabama and left tens of thousands of people without power.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service say some areas of the state will likely see wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour and possible hailstorms. Tornado watches are in effect in areas of southwest and central Georgia. National Weather Service officials say tornado watches are in effect from Pike to Grady County and areas westward until 5 a.m.

Forecasters expect the weather system to cross into Georgia by midnight before moving across the state.

National Weather Service officials say the storm system is expected to hover over Georgia for up to three hours into early Wednesday morning.
