A motorcycle rider was killed Thursday morning in a collision with a pickup truck on Joe Frazier Road.
It happened at about 7 a.m. on Joe Frazier Road near Polite Drive.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a 2008 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by Tyshan Bentley, 23, ran off the side of Joe Frazier Road, overcorrected and went into oncoming traffic.
The motorcyclist trying to avoid being hit, laid his bike down, but the truck ended up hitting him, according to SCHP. The motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet. SCHP is still investigating the wreck.
A Parris Island representative told WTOC that an active-duty Marine who is stationed at Parris Island was killed in the wreck. His name will not be released for 24 hours, which is military protocol. The pickup truck driver is also an active-duty military member.
