Peach Drop 2012 Peach Drop 2012

More than 100,000 people are expected at Underground Atlanta this New Year's Eve for the 24th annual Peach Drop at midnight.

The event drew upwards of 175,000 people one year ago, according to an official with Underground Atlanta.

Children's festivities begin at 11 a.m. Family friendly activities are planned throughout the day, with Beatles cover band Abbey Road taking the stage closer to midnight to help usher in the New Year.

There will be numerous street closings around these events throughout the day.

Traffic around Underground Atlanta will be restricted beginning at 4 p.m. around a perimeter formed by:

  • Central Avenue – Peachtree Center Avenue on the East
  • Spring Street – Walton Street – Forsyth Street on the West
  • Martin Luther King Jr. on the South
  • Ellis Street – Carnegie Way on the North

Michelle Lawrence with Underground Atlanta said people would be wise to take MARTA, with such a large crowd expected, and limited parking.

Bag checks will be conducted beginning at 5 p.m. for security purposes. Bags, backpacks, coolers, alcoholic beverages (alcoholic beverages will be sold on the property), weapons, pets, picnic baskets, bikes, inline skates, skateboards, and lawn chairs will not be permitted in the event area.

Other events going on in the area Monday include:

  • Chick-Fil-A Bowl Fan Fest, Georgia World Congress Center, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Chick-Fil-A Bowl, Georgia Dome, 7:30 p.m.
  • Chick-Fil-A Bowl Parade, Peachtree Street, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Route: Peachtree Street South from Ralph McGill to International Boulevard. West on International across Centennial Olympic Park Drive. Continue to Upper International, where it will disband).
