Operation New Hope graduates its ninth class.
CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -
Seven dogs are
getting a second chance at life thanks to some inmates at the Chatham County Sheriff's
Office.
The dogs and three
inmates graduated from the ninth class of Operation New Hope. The program
allows the sheriff's office to take dogs from the Humane Society of Greater Savannah
and train them so they can be placed in loving permanent homes.
It also gives the
inmates a sense of responsibility because they are the sole provider for the
dog.
"He's just my best friend that's all. He's out
here to be a better dog. I'm out here to be a better man," said Jeff Oliver, an
Operation New Hope graduate. "He just needs someone to love him and he loves attention.
If someone doesn't give it to him, he's going to get it. He will find you."
The
program is run completely by donations. No taxpayer money is used in the
program.
